“A good treatment plan for children does not just mean a visit to the orthodontic office. I encourage parents to get involved in the treatment process and be aware of each step.
Together, we help the children's teeth develop harmoniously.”
– Dr. Ela Bănică, founder of Ortho Institute
When is it appropriate to schedule a consultation?
The first orthodontic consultation should be done around the age of 3. An incorrect undergoing development can be easily recognized at this age. Thus, we prevent dental clogging. We identify and treat the causes of crooked teeth.
Early detection of orthodontic problems has the advantage that some problems can be corrected more easily and less expensive.
When permanent teeth have grown or when the facial enlargement is almost completed, correcting some problems becomes more difficult for the patient. For this reason, all children should have an orthodontic check up to 7 years of age at the latest.
Why do we recommend intervention earlier than traditional orthodontics does?
We can gently guide the harmonious development of the face and correct the vicious oral habits in children before the age of 10, when the facial bones begin to strenghten rapidly. Later, the treatment, while still effective, becomes more difficult, longer and more expensive for the patient.
What is malocclusion and how do I recognize it in my child?
Dental malocclusion is an incorrect alignment of the teeth doubled or not by an abnormal relationship between the two dental arches. The main indicators of malocclusion:
- lack of space among the primary teeth, at the age of 4 years
- uneven upper or lower front teeth
- retracted jaw or mandible
- face elongation
- teeth in the opposite direction (reverse occlusion)
- resting posture with parted lips (open)
